Margiani's House Museum
Mikheil Khergiani was a famous Georgian alpinist who was born in Mestia on March 20, 1932.
He has conquered the most difficult peaks of the Caucasus, Pamir, Tian-Shan and Alps at different times. During one of the competitions in Wales, the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain called him "the tiger of the rock". This name stayed with Mikheil Khergiani forever. Mikheil Khergiani is a three-time (1955, 1956, 1964) champion of the USSR in alpinism and a seven-time (1952, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1965 (absolute), 1966, 1967) champion of trade union competitions and USSR championships in rock climbing.
On July 4, 1969, Mikheil Khergiani fell into a rockfall while climbing Su-Alto peak in Italy, his rope broke and he fell from a height of 600 meters. He is buried in Mestia.
